Little life update

Sunday, 28 September 2014

Hello hello hello people of the internet! Yes, I am still alive... but boy am I a terrible blogger. It's been like 4 months since I last wrote a post, and I am SO so sorry for abandoning this little corner of cyberspace! What can I say... year 12 sucks (and so does all the study I should probably be doing right now).

So firstly, a huge sorry/ thank you to all of you wonderful followers who have stuck with me despite my terrible blogging absence! You rock. I have had so many post ideas lined up for ages for you guys that I just have never had the time to get round to shooting, and it makes me sad that I've had to push this blog to the side this year while I finish year 12! But luckily for me (and you) the end is almost near... 2ish more months and I'M FINISHED SCHOOL FOREVERRRR!!!! Is it obvious I'm excited? And that means more regular posting for you! Hooray!

So until the end of exams, there probably won't be much activity happening on here! But for those of you who follow my instagram, I'll still be updating pretty frequently! :)

Well, that is about all I have to say for now! I am just so excited to for the end of exams so I can finally get back to blogging again. I've really missed it this year! Hopefully this post was semi-coherent, it's currently almost 1 in the morning and I'm typing half asleep, which probably wasn't the best idea, but I've been feeling guilty about being MIA for so long and tonight I suddenly felt the urge to update you all on my absence!

Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday/ study break/ life in general and see you on the other side of exams!!!

 Hello everyone!
This is just a quick post but I am just so excited to show you my lovely new glasses that I couldn't wait! ;) Those of you who follow me on instagram will have seen that on Saturday it was my 17th birthday, and these glasses were my present from my parents. I love them so much, I'm so happy to have finally gotten new glasses because I've had my old pair for 3 years and I was really ready for something new!

I hope all of you have had a lovely weekend and keep an eye out for another birthday-related post coming soon (this post really is a sneak peak of the next one haha), although I may not be posting as much for a little while because of exams!

Etsy loves

Monday, 28 April 2014

After being inspired by both the handmade shops on etsy and Chloe's wonderful post, I decided to share my own current etsy favourites as well! I just love browsing through all the handmade things that are on there, the talent behind them is amazing and I'm also gathering inspiration for a potential up and coming project (all will be revealed next year!).

Adventures

Saturday, 26 April 2014

Hello lovelies!
So today I thought I'd share a few photos from a holiday that my family went on over the Easter break! We travelled into the countryside to see family and visit some of the remote Australian towns which are just so interesting to see, they are so so different from the city and I always love it whenever we go into the outback!

Most of these photos are shot at a salt lake that we visited during our stay. It was so amazing walking on salt that had built up over many years of little rainfall and hot summers, and we felt like we were on the set of a sci-fi movie; all you could see was flat salt and dead trees for miles! Unfortunately I forgot to charge my SLR (typical zoe) so I had to make do with my dodgy iphone camera. Although, hopefully they didn't turn out too bad! You can see some more photos on my instagram.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the easter break and recovering from your chocolate comas! ;)

Makeup favourites

Saturday, 5 April 2014

 Hello lovelys!
This post has been highly requested and so I thought I'd finally get around to doing it- a makeup favourites post!
First up is my Chi Chi mosaic blush in pink-browns. It is such a lovely shade,  and not too over the top. Also in the photo is my favourite lip gloss, Super Jennifer lip glaze.
I don't often wear eye makeup but when I'm going out I love Maybelline Colour Tattoo eyeshadows because they're so so easy to apply and such pretty colours! I have them in the colours Barely Branded (top), Inked in Pink (middle) and Bad to the Bronze (bottom). Also for my eyes I love my Nyx eye pencil in 'yoghurt'.
My favourite face product at the moment is Porefessional by Benefit, which I use as a primer. At first I wasn't too sure about it but after using it for a while I've fallen in love!

So there you have it! I love reading these sort of posts on other blogs so hopefully this has been interesting for you all! Have you tried any of these products? If so, what did you think of them?

ps. A big sorry to all the lovely people who have sent me emails over the past few weeks! Now my laptop is (finally) working again I can finally begin to reply to all of you- sorry it's taken so long!

School Ball + Sorry!!

Tuesday, 1 April 2014

Hello everyone! First of all I have to say how sorry I am- my laptop hasn't been working very well at all over the past few weeks so I haven't been able to reply to comments/ update ze blog at all! These problems have hopefully been well and truly fixed now so I will get round to replying to emails etc asap, I'm really sorry for not replying to all the lovely people who have sent an email in the last few weeks.

This post is just a quickie (I have a test tomorrow that I should be studying for... oh the art of procrastination), so I've just added a few photos from my high school ball that happened a couple of weeks ago. It was an absolutely unforgettable night! Everyone looked lovely in their ball dresses and suits, and it really was such an amazing night. Have any you had/ are going to have your balls this year?

GUEST POST// Aish from Babbles to the World

Saturday, 22 February 2014

Heya everyone! I am super duper excited to announce a little surprise for all of you- my wonderful blogging friend Aish has written a guest post for B&L! Aish is a lovely girl and her blog is great so make sure you hop on over and have a look. And don't you think her pictures that she drew for this post are SO amazing?

You can also check out the hair bow DIY I wrote on her blog here! xx

-------------------

Hello there!

Let me start off by saying that I'm so happy that I get to write a guest post on Zoe's lovely blog, its an amazing opportunity and I'm quite pleased that she has handed over the reigns to me (atleast for one post haha). Second off, how about the pun in the title eh? *wink wink *

Considering that babbling about my experiences in my 17 year old life is my forte, I'm here to share with you guys a slice of my top 5 tips. Yes, I do have them. Oh look at me, being a meticulous adult and all! So let me hook you gals (and guys, I see you too) up with simple things that will make your life amazing (for you and for the others around you.)
Listen More Than you Speak: This little saying comes from a folktale that my great grandma used to tell me. If you have two ears and only one mouth, you must decide for yourself which one to use more. Don't hurt your heads – the answer is you should use your ears more. Listen to someone before giving your opinions (funny thing coming from me) but wouldn't the world be a better place if we just considered everyone else's perspective for once?
Try on other shoes: I think this is something I learnt in my junior year of high school. Comfort zones are like the plushy and cute teddy bears that everyone has around their rooms (don't lie, you do too) and they are so nice to be around, but you have to grow out of them eventually. That is the way life goes. Imagine all the wonderful things you can do and all the adventures you can go on, if you're day-dreaming them then I can say with certainty that they are outside your comfort zone. It might seem scary but do take that leap, it will be worth it.
Wear your flaws like an armour!: I see so many young girls and boys that are so condescending about themselves. My chemistry teacher always said that we were the most cruel judges when it came to ourselves (don't I get too much of advice from everyone?). Its so true though. But I want you to know (yes, you!) that I really do like your freckles and your crooked teeth and snippity-hair and all the other things that you wouldn't want anyone else seeing. I think, its the best part of ourselves and you should definitely wear them out like a beautiful brooch.
This too shall pass: Statistically saying, anyone reading Zoe's blog has to be in the teenage year frame. Am I right? And those are the times when we feel most out of place. I have caught myself so many times when I just go – Ugh! Why me? What have I done to deserve this? Why is *my* life so hard?? But the truth is, I'm not the only person feeling this way. During such times just remember this – this too shall pass. Nothing is permanent in life, not the good parts and definitely not the bad parts. You just have to get through it really fast, like pulling off a band-aid.
Love and Be Loved: Really? I don't think I have to explain this. Share your bucket of love and you will get an ocean in return. I promise with all my heart. Also, watch “The Odd Life of Timothy Green”, it'll do you good.

So that's all guys! I'm gonna go head off and read a book or something. I really hope you liked the sketches, I had a fantabulous time making them! Have a good day and stay chill!
Love and Awesomeness
-Aish xx

Feeling kinda uninspired on the blogging front so here is a little playlist of songs I've been listening to this month. What songs have you been loving recently? xx

Notebook- Typo // Pen- Staedtler

Heya! So recently I have been shopping and picked up a few things I thought I'd show you. The first are two notebooks from Typo which I'm going to use for my french class at school, along with a Staedtler finepoint liner which I thought looked so pretty and will be great for headings in my notes.

 Travel purse- Typo

This Typo travel purse was a present from my godfather for when I went to France, however it arrived late so I only received it after I came back! It's so handy for keeping passports and tickets in check.

 Necklace- unknown // Perfume- Lush

I received this beautiful necklace for Christmas from my host family and have been wearing it almost non-stop ever since! I bought my solid perfume last week after my old pot ran out. It's such a lovely floral scent which is perfect for summer.

 Dress- Paperscissors

New clothes.. yay! This dress is so bohemian and lovely, I feel like a carefree hippie whenever I wear it hehe ;) I've noticed that recently my style has been becoming more boho and colourful, and this purchase is a perfect example.

Skirt- Into

I purchased thus skirt along with the dress and I just adore the tapestry pattern and heavy fabric. It's more of a winter skirt though, so I think this will become a staple for me during the cooler months!

Have a wonderful day everyone! xx

KNITTING BASICS // Casting on

Saturday, 25 January 2014

Hello hello!
I am super excited today because.... I am starting a new series called Knitting Basics! As many of you know I love knitting, however I never got around to sharing DIYs on the blog as of yet. So I thought, why not make a series of tutorials? :) This first one is a tutorial of how to cast on for all you beginner knitters out there. Of course, there are many ways to cast on, but this is the way I do it and I find it works well for me. Let's gets started... hooray!

You will need //
yarn of any variety // needles with a suitable size for the yarn you are using

1// Start with a piece of yarn roughly 3 times longer than the width of your knitting project. This is the 'tail'. Don't cut it off from the ball of yarn though!

2// At the end of your tail that is attached to the ball of wool, wrap the yarn around your fingers twice to make an x shape. You should have two pieces if yarn around your finger.

3// Pull the piece of yarn closest to your knuckles under the other piece and pull through to make a loop.

4// Pull the loop tight and slip it on to your needle. This is your 'slip knot'.

5// Make another loop in your tail.

6// Slip the new loop on to your needle and pull to tighten.

7// You should now have two stitches on your needle. Yay! :)

8// Continue adding more loops in this way until you reach the desired width.. Make sure to keep some of your tail there so you can sew it up later.

I hope this tutorial was helpful to any of you interested in starting knitting! The next post in this series will be up later on :) I also had a quick question for all of you- I'm thinking of setting up an instagram account specifically for Bramble and Lace. I already have my personal account, which you can follow here, but I was wondering if a B&L one would interest you?

Have a lovely day! xx

3 magazines worth reading

Thursday, 23 January 2014

Hello everyone! So today I thought I'd do a little post on my favourite magazines. The first one, Yen, is great for anyone who is interested in art and photography as it is filled to the brim with beautifully photographed and well-written articles.

Peppermint is a lovely fashion magazine that emphasises the importance of sustainable living. It features eco-friendly fashion and tips on protecting the environment in our day to day lives.

Lastly, and probably my all time favourite magazine, is Frankie. Most of you may have already heard of Frankie but for those who haven't it's full of fashion spreads, photography and artwork, interviews and craft DIYs- basically all you want out of a magazine! ;)

For me, magazines are the perfect way to relax after a long day. Do you have any arty/ crafty/ fashion magazines that you love? If so, please comment the name as I'd love to have a look! :) I hope you all liked this little post; I'm trying to post more often while I'm still on holidays. Have a lovely day everyone! xx

France Update #2

Tuesday, 21 January 2014

Bonjour! Welcome to my second France update... I'M BAAAAAACK!!!! I arrived back in Aus last week and have slowly been getting back to 'normal' life. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/ New Year period!

It's safe to say that my time in France was the most incredible, rewarding and challenging experience of my life. I spoke seulement en français and attended a French school during my visit, which was difficult to start with but was so rewarding by allowing me to improve my French and also making heaps of friends from the other side of the world. I also loved photographing the beautiful French landscape- everywhere we visited was incredible! My host family were amazing... I feel like I literally have two families and my host sisters are my new best friends! ;) If any of you get the opportunity to go on an exchange I really really recommend it. You'll never regret it, trust me!

I still can't believe that I'm back already, the time certainly flew by and before I knew it I was on a plane heading back home. Crazy! Happy 2014 (bit late I know)! Here's to a wonderful year for all of you xx
