GETTING READY FOR YEAR 12

Sunday, 25 January 2015

Heya!! Sooo while I still have about a month until uni starts, I know a lot of you will be heading back to school sooner rather than later. So to kick off the back to school posts I have planned, I decided to share a few tips that I picked up during my last year of school that will hopefully help some of you out if you're heading into year 12 this year! Also to the people who have messaged/emailed me asking about how I study, hopefully this will answer some of your questions :)

1// Clean work space
I'm just going to treat the above shot of my desk as a major 'what not to do' example- I am pretty messy, and it causes so much extra stress when I'm trying to find all my study notes amidst all the random piles of books all over my desk! Keeping your desk clean and neat will make it so so much easier to find everything you need throughout the year.

2// Pretty stationary
Is it just me or does nice stationery make you so much more inclined to study? I love Kikki K or Typo for stationery, and Chloe also has some great book cover DIYs that are just so pretty.

3// Study technique
I found that getting into a good study technique and sticking to it helped out so much in year 12. My personal way of studying is writing everything down in note form, and then saying the information out loud over and over again until I've memorised everything. There's no one right way to study though, so find a method that works best for you.

4// Don't forget to have breaks
I found this really important, especially during exam time when I got burnt out. Go for a walk around your neighbourhood, or read, or play with your pets for 10 minutes. It will make such a difference!

5// Remember to still eat healthily
For me, whenever I'm in study mode I always tend to reach for unhealthy food (comfort eater alert!) but when you eat healthily, it will make you feel a whole lot more invigorated to study the next day! I like making frozen raspberry  and banana smoothies, which are super easy and delicious!

So there you have it! I hope this has been helpful to some of you! xx

LIEBSTER BLOG AWARD

Wednesday, 21 January 2015

Heya! Today I am super excited because I have been nominated again for the Liebster Blog Award, this time by the wonderful girls over at Louie and Coco. Thank you so much!

Basically what nominees must do is answer the questions given to them by the people who nominated them, then list a few questions for the people who they will nominate. ( I probably explained that terribly but oh well!)

Sooo firstly I'll answer the questions given to me by Louie and Coco!

1. What is your favourite healthy food?
I love lots of different types of fruit, but nectarines and pineapples would probably be my favourite!

2. What is your favourite not so healthy food?
I am a sucker for anything chocolate.

3. What is the coolest thing about where you live?
I live in Western Australia, which isn't the most exciting place in the world (by a long shot) but definitely still has its perks. I love that the beach is so close, and the weather is always pretty good! Probably my favourite thing about Western Australia though is just the laid-back and friendly atmosphere.

4. What book would you recommend?
I just finished reading How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr, which is literally AH-MAZING. Seriously so underrated but so incredible none the less!

5. Favourite movie of all time?
I don't watch that many movies but I would say The Imitation Game, Crash, Hotel Rwanda and Primal Fear would be my favourites!

6.What is the best gift you've ever recieved?
It's a toss-up between my sewing machine and my DSLR camera which I use for all my blogging.

7. What's the best gift you've ever given?
I have no idea!!

8. What do you feel most proud of?
Probably being head girl at my school last year and getting the school community leadership award. Community service and volunteering is something that is very important to me, and being head girl was the most amazing and rewarding experience for my final year of school.

9. What is the best advice ever  given to you?
My parents always put a big emphasis on trying your best. It's something that has really helped me in all aspects of life!
Another great piece of advice from my parents was to take a language in school. Seriously it is INSANE how knowing another language can completely open up your world- I now have so many friends in France and around the world just because I learnt French. It's also inspired me to take up another language- Swahili- which I hope will be beneficial in my future work.

10. Name three things that make you laugh
My best friends never fail to put a smile on my face. Kath and Kim is also HILARIOUS for all of you aussies, and funny cat videos never go wrong.

11. What's your favourite quote?
"Plutôt la vie"which is a quote in a famous photograph by Boubat. It roughly translates into "rather life", which I take as meaning to make the most out of life!

Okay so I nominate Aish, Rachel and Norkor for the award; their blogs are some of my absolute favourites here in the blogosphere! Here are your questions:

1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
2. What song are you currently listening to?
3. What are your favourite things to do in your spare time?
4. Why did you start blogging?
5. Do you have any pets?
6. What do you want to do as a future career?
7. One place you've always wanted to visit?
8. Books or movies?
9. What's your least favourite food?
10. When did you start your blog?
11. What's one thing that you can never leave your house without?

Hope you enjoy! xx

DIY// MESSY BUN TUTORIAL

Sunday, 18 January 2015

Hello! Today I'm sharing a quick little DIY that has come in handy for me during my last few bad hair days. Normally I do my messy bun differently but this DIY is so quick and saves you having to go out and buy a hair donut (why buy something if you can make it yourself? Yay!)

All you need for this is an old pair of tights and some scissors.
1// Cut one of the legs off the tights and cut off the toe to make a hollow cylinder.
2// Roll the cylinder in on itself until you make a little donut shape. And you're done woo!

HOW TO USE THE HAIR DONUT:

1// Start off by putting your hair in a ponytail.

2// Push the ends of your hair through the centre of the donut and start wrapping your hair around the donut to create a bun shape.

3// Secure with bobby pins.

And viola- a great way to use your old tights and save money! I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial, and let me know in the comments if there are any particular posts you would like to see on B&L soon; I would love to hear from you! xx

MELBOURNE + TASMANIA PHOTO DIARY

Sunday, 11 January 2015

So as most of you know I recently travelled to Melbourne and Tasmania with my family, so I thought I would share some of the photos that I took during our stay! These are just a few, however there are many more on my instagram if you would like to have a peek! :)

Firstly we arrived in Melbourne, which was absolutely incredible- a must for anyone travelling in Australia! We stayed on Flinders Street, which was nice and central making it easy for us to go out and visit a lot of the tourist sites during our stay. I would definitely recommend Brunswick Street for any keen shopper in Melbourne, the amount of boutiques and second-hand stores was great and everything was so so cheap!

After 5 days in Melbourne, we hopped on another plane that took us to the beautiful island of Tasmania. We spent about 2 weeks driving all around the island, which had the most beautiful scenery! The food was also amazing- soo much seafood!

Somewhere I would definitely recommend visiting for anyone in Hobart is MONA, a huge museum just out of the city. It has pretty weird stuff, but is so worth the visit as it is completely unlike anything else I've ever visited.

Sleepy Bay in Freycinet National Park was also extremely beautiful, with crystal-clear water and lots of little rockpools. It's definitely worth a visit!

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this little holiday post. I am just SO excited to be back into the swing of things blog-wise and have so many new ideas!! xx

HELLO 2015!

Sunday, 4 January 2015

Hello everyone! First of all it is SO GREAT to be back here!! So much has happened during my absence... finishing school forever, doing my end of year exams, travelling to Melbourne and Tasmania... the list goes on! But I am very happy and excited to say that I am back for good and plan to make a real go of this little blog in 2015. It's something that I have missed so much during 2014, and now that I am finally free of schoolwork I am so excited to really devote a lot of time to making quality content for you guys. I am planning to post once a week, probably every weekend, so stay tuned for lots of new content to come! :)

I hope you all had a very Happy New Year!! Is it just me or did 2014 go insanely fast? Personally I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that it's a whole new year already... I mean where did all that time go?
2014 was probably one of the most stressful but funnest years of my life so far. People certainly aren't kidding when they say year 12 is pretty crazy, but surprisingly I really enjoyed my final year despite the never-ending pile of work!

I hope you all had a fabulous start to the new year. Once again, thank you so much to all of you who have stuck around during my MIA-blogger moments this year, I honestly appreciate each and every one of you so much! It blows my mind that there is a little community of people out there in the world who are interested in what I write and share here, and I am so excited to bring you new and improved posts in 2015!

Zoe xx

ps. A huge sorry to everyone who has sent me emails over the past couple of months!! While I was away on holiday I somehow managed to get locked out of my account (nice one Zoe) and have only just regained access. I'm currently in the process of replying to all of you so I'm so sorry for the delay!
